Most patients consider the post-operative pain manageable with a combination of anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and short-term narcotic pain medication like Percocet.
Regular rest, icing and elevation of the post-operative foot will also significantly reduce pain. Surgical procedures for the most severe bunions may also require a nerve block performed by a member of the anesthesia team to give as much as 30 hours of post-operative pain relief.
